De’Long and Campbell lead Seawolves to third straight win


STONY BROOK, NY – The Stony Brook University women’s volleyball team (10-10, 4-2 America East) earned their third straight victory and second straight sweep by defeating Binghamton (6-12, 2-4 America East) in two sets on Sunday. The Seawolves were punctuated by the junior outside hitter Amiyah De’Long and central tackle in second year Abby campbell, who each recorded 11 kills each on over 0.400 hits in the win.

The Seawolves were in full control of the game from the first set. After the first set was tied at 9-9, Stony Brook chased a 5-0 run to climb 14-9 and never looked back. The Seawolves continued to build their lead in the first set behind Campbell who recorded five kills in the first set alone. They ultimately took the victory in the set by the final tally of 25-19.

Stony Brook continued that momentum in the second set as he never dragged into the frame. The Seawolves led end to end on their way to the second set victory. Stony Brook dominated the set and was victorious by the final score of 25-14.

The Seawolves used a 4-0 run to get away from Binghamton early in the set and took the lead, 10-4. A late 5-0 run won the second set in favor of Stony Brook. De’Long did most of her damage in the second set as she had five kills in the frame.

The Seawolves came in for the sweep in the third set and that’s exactly what they got. For the second straight set, Stony Brook never lagged behind beating the Bearcats, 25-11, in the third to seal the victory.


  • De’Long finished with 11 kills on a searing 0.478 strike. He scored the 13e Time this season she’s totaled 10 or more kills in a game and this was the fourth game in a row she’s done so. The 0.478 winning percentage marks his highest winning percentage in a single game this season.
  • Campbell was very effective for the Seawolves and she had 11 kills on .444 down center. The sophomore has recorded double-digit wins for the fourth time this season.
  • Setter in second year Torri Henri distributed 34 assists as she punctuated Stony Brook’s offensive attack. She has totaled 30 or more assists in 15 games this season. Henry added seven digs and two aces over the three sets.
  • Libero graduate Kiani kerstetter picked up 14 digs, a game-high.
  • Second year outside hitter Leoni Kunz had nine wins and seven recoveries in the afternoon.
  • As a team, Stony Brook recorded 38 kills on .266 shots and made just 13 errors in the contest. Binghamton finished with 19 kills from -0.089 kills and committed 27 errors.
  • The three-game winning streak is the longest for the Seawolves since winning three in a row last spring (March 22-28).


“It was great to get those two wins this weekend at Pritchard. Today we were particularly good at our decision making. I almost wanted to see us take more risks as attackers, but we did a good job managing the rally. i made a few tricky mistakes but overall i’m happy with our efforts this weekend. we have an important road weekend ahead for which we have to be a little more specific, ”said the head coach. The Seawolves embark on a two-game road trip as they head to Hartford on Friday, October 22, for a 7 p.m. first serve. After meeting with the Hawks, Stony Brook heads to New Hampshire on Sunday, Oct. 24 at 1 p.m.
