Eligibility For Boosters In US Closes With CDC – NBC 7 San Diego Panel Meeting

The FDA’s decision whether or not to allow COVID-19 booster injections for all adults is expected soon. An advisory group for the Centers for Disease Control is already scheduled to meet on Friday. If FDA votes clear the Pfizer adult recall, the CDC can take up the issue and approval could come by the end of the day.

“This will be very important for people when they have available boosters to get the vaccine,” said Dr Anthony Fauci.

California and other states have not waited for federal government approval and, as of last week, people 18 and older have already started receiving the booster shots.

The clearance would mean tens of millions of Americans could become eligible for the recall before the holidays, and as health officials worry about the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases, particularly in the Midwest and the North-east. Coronavirus deaths over the past week are on average a thousand a day nationwide. Hospitalizations among people vaccinated but not yet boosted are also on the rise.

Dr William Tseng of Kaiser Permanente said we in California are luckier.

“If you have more infections you will inadvertently have more hospitalizations … California and San Diego, we’re so lucky because we have higher vaccination rates, if you look at other states, they [case rates] increase much faster than us.

San Diego County Health and Human Services released their latest figures on Thursday.

The report showed 388 new cases of COVID-19 and 10 more deaths.

According to state data, the number of coronavirus patients in San Diego County hospitals has fallen from 16 to 261 and the number of COVID-19 patients in intensive care units has increased by five.

“What we are seeing is that the number of hospitalizations remains very stable,” Tseng said, adding that he hoped the numbers would decrease until they hit zero.

“It is over there [flat] for California for some time now, and that’s the concern. Are we going to see a small bump especially in winter when everyone is together? “

He too is urging people to get the recall. It is now available in California to all eligible adults. But on top of that, he said, the priority is to get those who haven’t been vaccinated vaccinated.
