Environmental Protection Agency Adopts Veritone’s aiWARE to Meet Transparency Requirements in an Increasingly Virtual Meeting World | Business
DENVER – (BUSINESS WIRE) – Dec. 2 2021–
Veritone, Inc. (NASDAQ: VERI), creator of aiWARE, a hyper-expansive enterprise AI platform, today announced that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is the latest US federal agency to take advantage of aiWARE ™. This decision is motivated by the significant growth of audio and video recordings created daily by the agency. More often than not, requests for public records are made for those recordings and the agency is obligated to redact personally identifiable information and other sensitive information before it is released. The scale of the problem has become so great that agency staff can no longer accomplish this task accurately and in a timely manner. Instead, Veritone’s automated authoring and content rating technology will accelerate these requests.
In addition to this most recent contract with the EPA, Veritone aiWARE is used with various components within the United States Department of Justice and the United States Department of Defense.
Since 1967, the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) has granted the public the right to request access to the records of any federal agency. Federal agencies are required to disclose any information requested under the FOIA, unless it falls under one of the nine exemptions that protect interests such as privacy, national security and law enforcement. . The law was written before the internet and before the current pandemic which has triggered a proliferation of online meetings through communication platforms like Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet. For example, Zoom had 10 million daily participants on December 31, 2019. This number increased to 300 million as of April 21, 2020. In addition, The law on the sun requires federal agencies to generally keep an electronic transcript or recording of closed meetings and make all non-exempt portions of the transcription or recording available to the public. Veritone editorial staff is used by federal, state and local agencies across the United States and cuts the time to write sensitive information by up to 90% compared to manual processes. In addition to Redact, the EPA will also use Veritone Illuminate and aiWARE for relativity to help with their content discovery, writing and disclosure obligations.
Jon Gacek, Head of Government, Legal and Compliance at Veritone, said: “The EPA has always been a forward-thinking agency. In this case, they improve operational efficiency and accuracy by adopting the latest technologies to automate the secure and rapid execution of video-based public recording requests. aiWARE offers the agency the benefit of reassigning key personnel to matters that still require human oversight, while technology can automate the more repetitive, time-consuming, and often error-prone task. sensitive information.
