Women’s volleyball wraps up weekend in Ithaca
ITHAQUE, NY – The Union College women’s volleyball team ended their toughest weekend of the season with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-13) loss to Ithaca College in the Liberty League Saturday afternoon at Ben Light Gymnasium.
After facing an undefeated conference yesterday, Union (4-12, 0-4 Liberty League) met the other undefeated remaining conference this afternoon, as Ithaca (11-8, 4-0 Liberty League) took down 43 victories to the 11 of the Dutch in the victory in three sets.
Senior Jessica siraguse led the visitors with five wins, while the second Sophie estok Double the numbers with the team’s 10 best recoveries. Jaelyn Hershberger led all players with 10 kills for the Bombers.
The opening set got off to a good start for the visitors, as two aces on Estok’s serve led the Dutch to a quick 6-0 lead. Union was still leading 9-6 before 11 straight runs from the home side saw Ithaca regain control of the first set.
Ithaca used a similar run to gain control of the second set, scoring 14 of 15 points at one point to open a 13-5 lead, and also scored 14 of the first 18 points of the third set on the way to victory. .
Union will continue its momentum by taking on Skidmore College on Wednesday starting at 7 p.m.
